Villa-Lobos and the Conjunto Moderno da Pampulha: the modernist practice in music and architecture
Abstract
This article discusses the confluences and divergences in the theoretical and practical understanding of the movement known as Modernism, in the conception of the Modern Ensemble of Pampulha by all artists involved in the project, and in the works of Heitor Villa-Lobos. The architect Oscar Niemeyer and the composer Villa-Lobos were the greatest national and international exponents of their fields of work in what concerns the idea of Brazilian Modernism. There is a temporal difference between the realization of their creations, since in the architecture the modernist expression would come later with the construction of Niemeyer’s first works.
