Collaborative creative processes on the music of Jorge Peixinho (1940-1995): exploring the idiomatism of the guitar and the potential of electronics

Abstract

Jorge Peixinho (1940-1995) was a major composer of the Portuguese musical movement of the second half of the twentieth century. His collaboration with the guitarist Lopes e Silva (1937-2019) in Grupo de Música Contemporânea de Lisboa gave birth to 21 guitar works, composed through 24 years (from 1971 to 1994). In 2020, Peixinho’s works Harmónicos I and Sine nomine were transposed to guitar and electronics, through collaborative creative processes between guitarist and composer. Exploring guitar and electronics potentials, performative proposals were developed which, while respecting composer’s indications, suggest new sonorities. On LLOCK by Nuno Peixoto de Pinho, crafted after Peixinho’s L’Oiseau-Lyre and Cantos de Sophia, it was possible to recreate posthumously an imagined duo with Lopes e Silva, resourcing to his recording and to the software Ableton Live.
