This paper analyzes the role and the importance of the visual dynamic established by the points of view, which together end up forming a city's identity. The organization and situation of urban belvederes is thus a fundamental element of interpretation. The selection of points of view participate in building up images which form a visual discourse, that is then associated with the cities. The city of Rio de Janeiro, due to the uniqueness of your site, is an emblematic case: a large number of belvederes evoke combine and resonate different elements of the landscape in varying arrangements. These arrangements make up a narrative, a true iconographic discourse of the city.
