Abstract

This paper aims to identify the proximities and distances between the thoughts of Derrida and Deleuze based on their readings of Plato's philosophy. Taking Nietzsche as a fundamental intercessor for the two French-speaking thinkers, we will explore the difference between their conceptions of difference, one of them linked to the fight against the primacy of representation in the philosophical tradition, the other investing in the disturbing power of this notion for the same tradition. We will see that, as much as both Derrida and Deleuze question metaphysical thought and the privilege of the notion of identity contained within it, there is a fundamental divergence in their positions.
