This article aims to compare two homicide information databases, the Mortality Information System and the civil police database. The analyzed data was limited to Rio de Janeiro district, Brazil, in the period between 2008 and 2012, and exploratory analysis was used regarding temporal distribution, victims profile and neighborhood of the occurrences. In order to conclude if the databases were similar, non-parametric tests were used to verify whether or not there were dependencies. Wilcoxon test result indicated that the two databases have similar behavior while the Contingency Table pointed out heterogeneous behavior -- the variables year and race are presented differently in the two analyzed databases.
