Based on the notion of policing field, the article The Police (Re)Militarization in Post-Crisis Argentina: Between Organizational Interests and Politic Instrumentalization in the Policing Fields aims to explain the operational and symbolic militarization of policing in the two largest Argentina urban areas, Buenos Aires and Córdoba, in the last decade. Based on documents and interviews, and questioning the impersonal mechanisms of change of historical and sociological institutionalism, it is argued that the fights between and within police organizations, as well as disputes in the political field, are the causes of the operational and territorial growth of the militarized Gendarmeria at the expense of other forces. Finally, the implications for the study of the militarization of the police function are discussed.
