A Pastio Villatica no Rerum Rusticarum de Varão: entre a economia e a competição aristocrática

O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar alguns apontamentos sobre a denominada uillatica a partir das representações presentes no terceiro livro do Rerum Rusticarum de Varrão. De modo geral, a pastio uillatica pode ser compreendida enquanto um modelo de propriedade privada voltada para a criação de animais de pequeno e médio porte. Na moderna historiografia, os estudos destas representações têm caminhado em duas direções. Por um lado, parte da historiografia tem destacado o papel econômico destas propriedades. Por outro lado, alguns estudos têm demonstrado que, para além do aspecto econômico, a representação destas propriedades diz também sobre as relações de poder, a competição e a autorrepresentação da aristocracia. Sendo assim, nossa hipótese inicial é que os aspectos econômicos circunscritos a esta modalidade de criação não devem ser dissociados da competição social e da autorrepresentação da aristocracia na República Romana Tardia.
