Economia romana, discussões antigas e a Arqueologia

Os estudos sobre a Economia Antiga motivaram intensos debates desde inícios do século XX, sempre marcados por visões conflitantes acerca de suas rupturas e continuidades com o mundo moderno. O caso mais conhecido é o debate entre “primitivistas” e “modernistas”, que sempre expressam opiniões opostas: o primeiro grupo insiste que havia deficiências intrínsecas que limitaram o seu desenvolvimento; o segundo discorda, defende sua eficiência e aponta similaridades entre a economia Antiga e Moderna. Por conta disso, a economia romana é apresentada sob um caráter dicotômico: ora descrita como subdesenvolvida e de baixo desempenho, ora como próspera e avançada. Vamos destacar a influência que o primitivista Moses I. Finley teve no meio acadêmico e contestar suas ideias, desconstruindo um de seus principais baluartes teóricos: o modelo da “Cidade Consumidora”. Nosso objetivo principal é apresentar uma nova perspectiva interpretativa, baseada em uma interdisciplinaridade proativa que permita cruzar os pressupostos da Arqueologia com uma seleção mais abrangente das ciências pertinentes ao tema escolhido.
