This study aims at delineating the several architectonic forms of 17th-century colonial Luanda such as they appear in the novel A gloriosa família, by Pepetela: the ones which represent power -- the sacred and secular ones -- and those of the commercial and social classes uptown and downtown. Human relations with the geographic place and the subjective space, which include life experiences and feelings, will be studied according to Tuan.
