Abstract

his study aims to present the convergences between journalism and art in denouncing necropolitics
in the 1999 documentary A última prostituta, directed by Brazilian journalist Licínio Azevedo,
who lives in Mozambique. Next, it will be possible to establish how cinema, in line with journalism,
with regard to the object of analysis of this research, presents a sociocultural and, consequently,
sociopolitical character, by promoting ruptures against the hegemonic North-globalist journalistic
model. To this end, the study is based on the concept of necropolitics, proposed by Mbembe (2016).
The goal of this research is to highlight the social role of journalism in narrating, denouncing, and
informing, so that stories are not forgotten or lost. Furthermore, this research is also supported by
the need to promote Mozambican cinema, since the country’s film industry is still in its early stages
and outside the Hollywood mainstream.
