This article aims to analyze the ways in which effects of meaning are created for fake news in Brazilian journalistic discourse. The analysis corpus consists of a report and a series of five videos produced by the fact checking service “Fato ou Fake”, associated with the G1 News Portal, circulating in the months of March and April 2022, with a view to taking doubts about the production and circulation of fake news in the Brazilian journalistic-media scenario. The theoretical-methodological framework is based on the discourse analysis proposed by Michel Pêcheux, taking discourse as an object that allows the understanding of the way in which language produces meanings, which occurs from the inscription of language in history. The analyzes focus on the way in which the fact checking service “Fato ou Fake” produces, in its words, effects of meaning for itself and its reader-followers; as well as the way in which the meaning effects of fake news are discursively produced in the media discourse in relation to current journalistic practices.
