Abstract

The aim of this text is to put into perspective the Costa Rican dance scene, by identifying the main institutions, groups and individuals who have intervenedon the development of the stage dance from the second half of the XX century to the present; based on a previous study of the choreographic production in Central America. It’s important to highlight that we want to present from another view what has been published about the stage dance field in Costa Rica, two years after the pandemic and my incorporation into the research group “Descentrados”, encouraging a decolonized speech

Author Biography

Marta Avila Aguilar, National University of Costa Rica, Costa Rica

Marta Ávila Aguilar, San José, Costa Rica, 1959. She holds a PhD in Artistic Culture in Central America (DILAAC) from the National University of Costa Rica. She is a researcher and dance critic. She is currently an undergraduate and graduate professor, as well as director of the School of Dance at this university. She was co-founder of Danza Universitaria at the University of Costa Rica where she worked as a dancer, choreographer and costume designer, she won several national and international awards by dancing on stages in Peru, Mexico, Spain, Germany and the United States. She is the author of several books and academic articles on dance in Central America.
