Call for Papers – Thematic Dossier

The Graduate Program in Music at UFRJ and the Editorial Board of the Revista Brasileira de Música announce a call for papers for the thematic dossier Afro-diasporic presence in Brazilian music: canonical constructions and Afro-Atlantic cultural circulation in the colonial period and the Empire, to be published in vol. 37, no. 1 (2026), curated by guest editors Lucas Robatto, professor at the School of Music of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and coordinator of UFBA’s Professional Graduate Program in Music (PPGPROM-UFBA), and José Maurício Brandão, professor and director of the School of Music and artistic coordinator of the UFBA Symphony Orchestra and Madrigal Choir. The call is addressed to researchers, faculty members, and graduate students in music and related fields.

The Graduate Program in Music of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGM-UFRJ) is pleased to announce the results recently achieved in the 2021–2024 Quadrennial Evaluation conducted by the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES). Following the upgrade of PPGM-UFRJ’s rating from “4” to “5,” which reflects peer recognition of the Program’s academic consistency and growing maturity, the Brazilian Music Review achieved the highly sought-after top “A1” classification within Qualis Periódicos—the component of the Quadrennial Evaluation designed to assess scholarly output in the form of scientific articles through an analysis of the quality of the journals in which they are published. These results reflect the collective efforts of the Program Coordination, Deliberative Committee, faculty and students, external collaborators, and technical-administrative staff, while reaffirming the Program’s institutional vitality. In announcing these achievements, which bring both the Graduate Program in Music and the UFRJ School of Music to new levels of recognition, the Editors-in-Chief and Editorial Board of the Brazilian Music Review extend their congratulations to all those who, directly or indirectly, contributed to making them possible.

The Graduate Program in Music at UFRJ and the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Music announce the call for papers for the thematic dossier LaMuT 30 Years: Relationships Between Musical Creation and Technology (vol. 36, no. 1, 2025), coordinated by guest editors Orlando Scarpa Neto, Postdoctoral Researcher in the Graduate Program in Music at UFRJ and Faculty Member of the Composition Department at the School of Music, and Rodrigo Cicchelli, Full Professor of the Composition Department at the School of Music, Permanent Faculty Member of the Graduate Program in Music at UFRJ, and Coordinator of the Laboratory of Music and Technology (LaMuT) at UFRJ. This call is directed at researchers, faculty, and graduate students in Music and related areas.

The UFRJ Graduate Program in Music and the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Music announce the call for papers for the thematic dossier Music Education in Post-Modernity: Epistemologies, Practices and Contexts of its v. 34, n. 1 (2021), coordinated by guest editors Sergio Álvares, permanent professor of the UFRJ Graduate Program in Music and leader of the Music Education, Comprehensive Musicality and Cultural Diversity in Post-Modernity Research Group, and Fábio Adour, permanent professor of the UFRJ Graduate Program in Music. The call for papers of this thematic dossier is addressed to researchers, faculty, and graduate students in Music and related areas.

The UFRJ Graduate Program in Music (PPGM) and the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Music announce the call for papers for the thematic dossier Creative processes in collaborative musical performance - dynamics and perspectives of its v. 33, n. 2 (2020), coordinated by guest editors Pedro Bittencourt, full time professor at the Wind Department of UFRJ School of Music and leader of the Performance Today Research Group of PPGM-UFRJ, and Danilo Rossetti, full time professor of the UFMT Department of Arts.

The call for papers of this thematic dossier is addressed to researchers, faculty, and graduate students of music and related areas: musical performance, composition, sonology, contemporary music practices in performance, computer music, collaborative processes, musical improvisation.

The UFRJ Graduate Program in Music and the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Music announce the call for papers for its v. 33, no. 1 (2020), in the modalities: 1) thematic dossier “Sound and Music in Audiovisual Studies” (edited by the “Rhythm, Body and Sound” Research Group of PPGM-UFRJ); and 2) continuous flow.

The call is addressed to researchers, faculty and graduate students in music and related fields, and for the thematic dossier also in the field of cinema and communication. Contributions in the form of complete articles in Portuguese, English or Spanish must be original and unpublished, and conform to the guidelines for authors and conditions for submission of the Brazilian Journal of Music. The deadline for submission is March 31, 2020, after which continuous flow submissions will be considered for the next volume of publication.
