Abstract

In this work, we aim to describe and discuss the occurrence of low applicative heads in two genetically non-related languages: Guiné-Bissau Creole (GBC) and Tupinambá (Tupi-Guarani family), based on the typology established by Pylkkänen (2002, 2008) and expanded by Cuervo (2003). Through the observed data, we have identifed not only the two types of low applicative heads postulated by Pylkkänen -- to-the-possession-of and from-the-possession-of --, but also the other type defned by Cuervo as static possession (at). In each language, the three types of applicative heads are expressed through the same structure: dative shift in Guiné-Bissau and possessor stranding in Tupinambá.
