The affixoid ‘lá' in Portuguese constructions - space perspectivization and (inter)subjectification

Abstract

In this article, in accordance with Usage-Based Functional Linguistics, in terms of Traugott and Trousdale (2013,) and Bybee (2010, 2015), among others, we investigate the affixoid “lá” as a subpart of three constructions instantiated in Brazilian Portuguese: textual connector (“lá vai”, “lá está”), discursive marker (“vamos lá”, “olhe lá”), and degree intensifier (“para lá de bonita”, “para lá de charmoso”). We argue that the use of “lá” in the three schemes is motivated by inferences that are negotiated between the interlocutors, based on properties of the locative, related to the type of perspectivized spatialization, when referring to a more distant and vague place in relation to the interlocutors, and to the strategies of (inter) subjectification.

Possui graduação em Letras Português Literaturas pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1981), mestrado em Letras (Letras Vernáculas) pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1986) e doutorado em Letras (Letras Vernáculas) pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1993). Tem pós-doutorado na Universidade Aberta (Lisboa). É professora titular de Língua Portuguesa da Universidade Federal Fluminense e atual presidente da Associação Brasileira de Linguística (ABRALIN). Coordenadora nacional do Grupo de Estudos "Discurso & Gramática". Chefe do Departamento de Letras Clássicas e Vernáculas da UFF e ex-coordenadora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos de Linguagem. Ex-coordenadora do GT Descrição do Português nos biênios 2012-2013 e 2014-2015. Foi editora-chefe da Revista Gragoatá de 2006 a 2016. Tem experiência na área de Linguística, com ênfase em Teoria e Análise Lingustica, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: língua portuguesa, funcionalismo, construcionalização lexical e gramatical, morfossintaxe e advérbios.
