This study, based on a functionalist view of language, presents a proposal to analyze the relation of conclusion that is established through the conjunctions so and therefore, in order to offer a contribution that shows the relevance of grammar teaching based on language uses. The results reveal that there are three different functions in the relation of conclusion established through the mentioned conjunctions (conclusion, consequence and summary), different from each other due, notably, to the speaker's communicative intention in the interaction. The research has shown the relevance of observing a linguistic phenomenon from authentic examples of language use, and not just from prototypical clauses found in traditional grammars.
