The article discusses the regional variation in temporal constructions with the Brazilian preposition 'de'. The focus is to demonstrate, in preliminary character, that the variation and change in the use of this nexus, such as ‘Eu vou de 11 horas’ (I go from 11 o'clock) x ‘Eu vou às 11 horas’ (I go [to] 11 o'clock), motivate important and current issues with regard to the semantic equivalence of linguistic variants and the strength of regional identity in the maintenance of socially marked and discredited linguistic patterns. In addition to the study, we point out residues of the continuous processes of linguistic change existing in the current Brazilian Portuguese from diachronic processes diagnosed from Latin.
