The acquisition of verbal morphology in BP and the aspect category

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the aspectual and temporal values related to inflectional morphemes in initial stages of Brazilian Portuguese (PB) acquisition as L1. It is intended, therefore, to contribute to studies on the architecture of the Faculty of Language, specifically, on the relations of dominance between Tense and Aspect. For this, the hypothesis considered was the Primacy of Aspect Hypothesis, according to which, when using a certain inflectional morpheme in the initial stages of acquisition, the child conveys features of semantic aspect. In order to follow the acquisition process, a corpus of a longitudinal nature was used.

Thais da Silveira Neves Araujo, Instituto Federal de São Paulo

Possui graduação em Letras pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2012) e é mestre em Linguística (2015) pela mesma universidade. Atualmente cursa Doutorado em Letras Neolatinas na UFRJ e é professora de Língua Portuguesa e de Língua Espanhola no Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de São Paulo.
