The Krahô live between the Manoel Alves Grande and Manoel Alves Pequeno rivers, tributaries of the right bank of the Tocantins River. The Kraholândia Indigenous Land was approved by Decree-Law No. 99.062, of March 7, 1990 and is located between the municipalities of Goiatins and Itacajá, in the northwest of the State of Tocantins. The goal of the present paper is to describe the sociolinguistic situation of the Krahô in the Pedra Branca village, observing the relative fluency with which the Krahô and the Portuguese languages are used by members of the community. For this, we carried out a sociolinguistic survey that described aspects of the socio-linguistic situation of the Krahô de Pedra Branca, observing the attitude and knowledge of the Krahô in relation to the two languages, Krahô and Portuguese. The research is ethnographic, using the phenomenological method, and both the qualitative and quantitative methodological approaches. The study was carried out based on field research, which had as instruments the participant observation, the field diary and the application of a questionnaire, the latter was elaborated based on research by Fishman (1967, 1980), extracted from Braggio (1992) and de Muñoz (1991), adapted by Albuquerque (1999). The results show that the Krahô society, despite the situation of linguistic and intercultural conflict in which it finds itself, tries to resist cultural and linguistic influences, maintaining its language, its cultural activities and its traditional knowledge.Downloads
