This text offers a practical overview of biological and technological aspects of an electromagnetic cognitive assessment tool named Event-Related Brain Potential (ERP), focusing on its application to language research. Because of its high temporal resolution (milliseconds), the ERP is considered an accurate measure for cognitive research, and has been widely used in neuroscience of language since the 1980's. The text intends to raise the most relevant questions about the technique, while discussing the major interdisciplinary issues that arise with its use.
