Squib: A feature geometric analysis of Pirahã phonology and tonology (Mura)

Neste trabalho revisamos alguns fatos da fonologia e da tonologia Pirahã apresentados em alguns trabalhos anteriores (Everett (1983), Sheldon (1974, 1988), K.Everett (1998)) com novos dados. Inicialmente apresentamos os principais aspectos da fonologia segmental e da estrutura silábica. Falamos sobre tons fonéticos e apresentamos resultados de medições de pitch em nomes em isolamento. Procedemos à análise tonológica do sistema Pirahã descrevendo os padrões tonais encontrados em nomes. De acordo com D. Everett (1979) apud K. Everett (1998, p.108) Pirahã tem dois tons fonológicos, L (baixo) e H (alto), que são realizados em quatro padrões tonais possíveis: H, L, LH e HL. Sequências ascendentes e descendentes são interpretadas como sequências de tons nivelados. Apresentamos evidências preliminares de que Pirahã em seu atual estágio tem quatro tons: baixo, alto, ascendente e descendente distribuídos em dois registros, [+stiff] and [-stiff] (Bao, 1999), com tons ascendentes e descendentes interpretados como unidades.
