Resenha: ‘Trabalhando a partir de hipóteses falsificáveis' ou ‘Sobre os mitos acerca dos C-linguistas': uma resenha crítica de “How to investigate linguistic diversity: lessons from the Pacific Northwest” (Henry Davis, Carrie Gillon e Lisa Matthewson)

Nesta resenha crítica de “How to investigate linguistic diversity: lessons from the Pacific Northwest” apresento os argumentos de Davis, Gillon e Matthewson (no prelo) a favor do uso de hipóteses falsificáveis para a descrição de línguas (minoritárias e não-minoritárias) a partir de elicitação individual de dados e de trabalho experimental. Em favor dos argumentos dos autores, procuro reiterar que o uso de métodos diversificados na descrição de línguas indígenas é o ideal, mas que em situações em que trabalhos de larga escala não possam ser realizados, o trabalho de elicitação de dados com um menor número de falantes também pode ser usado de forma competente para a descrição de fatos linguísticos e tipológicos e, crucialmente, para revisar propostas teóricas feitas tão somente apenas a partir de línguas indo-europeias. Desta forma, vamos corroborar os argumentos de Davis, Gillon e Matthewson segundo os quais o trabalho dos C-linguistas (‘linguistas chomskyanos', expressão utilizada pelos autores) não tenta reduzir todas as línguas a algum padrão já descrito, mas, ao invés disso, procura mostrar, a partir de hipóteses falsificáveis, quais padrões linguísticos ainda não foram contemplados na literatura. Desta forma, os C-linguistas podem contribuir para estudos tanto tipológicos como teóricos.
