DP structure in Kaingang

Abstract

This paper aims to present an analysis of the DP structure in Kaingang. The theme is relevant due to the absence of generative literature that brings a proposal of this structure for that language. The methodology adopted is theoretical-descriptive and data were collected from examples present in the published non-generative research on the language (in particular: Wiesemann, 2011; Gonçalves, 2007; Domingues, 2013; Navarro, 2012). The description of the data shows similarities with the Gungbe language structure (an African language of the Gbe family, Kwa subgroup), as proposed by Aboh (1998). For this reason, we extended Aboh’s proposal to Kaingang data and we finish the paper with new questions.

Cristina de Souza Prim, Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR)

Professora de Linguística da Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná. Possui doutorado em linguística pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas, mestrado em linguística pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Linguística da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina e graduação em Letras - Língua e Literatura Vernáculas pela mesma universidade. Fez estágio doutoral na Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona de outubro de 2013 a agosto de 2014. Concentra suas pesquisas e principais publicações na área de sintaxe formal.

Marcos Carreira, Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (UEPG)

Doutor pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras da Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), área de concentração em Estudos Linguísticos, teoria e análise gramatical (2015). Possui graduação em Letras Português Inglês - Licenciatura pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná (2001), mestrado em Letras pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (2008). Atualmente é Professor Adjunto C da Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa. Tem experiência na área de Lingüística, com ênfase em Sintaxe, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: sintaxe da predicação, ambiguidade de projeção, predicado secundário, paradoxos de constituência, small-clauses.
