São Félix do Xingu, in Pará, is a multilingual municipality where several indigenous peoples live distributed in over 40 communities. The majority are Mebêngôkre, better known as Kayapó. They speak their native language in all villages and in the town. However, they often become targets of prejudice and devaluation by the surrounding society. Recent movements have valued Mebêngôkre culture and language through events and training courses promoted by the Municipal Executive Secretariat of Education (SEMED). In addition to research, teaching, and extension activities carried out by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and the Federal University of Southern and Southeastern Pará (UNIFESSPA). At the same time, the Mebêngôkre are protagonists in various areas. Through technology, they fight for their rights, articulate themselves, and share ways of thinking and demanding their position in local, regional, and national politics. This article aims to disseminate the attitudes, experiences, and results of some policies in the municipality, allowing for reflection on the linguistic situation of the region as a way of recognizing local identities.
