In this article, we analyze activities that deal with lexical variation present in two PNLD 2021 textbooks, aiming to understand how the treatment of lexical variation is developed in these books used in high school. Our work is based on Sociolinguistic studies (Labov, 2008[1972]), Pedagogy of linguistic variation (Faraco, 2015b) and Lexicology (Polguère, 2018). We conclude that three factors influence lexical variation in a more present way: diatopic variation; diastratic and diaphasic. Furthermore, the activities in the textbooks develop work with this type of variation also based on social themes. Finally, we observed that, in textbook activities, lexical variation is related to aspects related to textual genres and social demands and spaces in which they circulate.
