Abstract

Although Herbert Helder and Ernesto Cardenal can be considered two distinct irreverent poets, there is, however, something that unites them: the interest in primitive poetry, from indigenous peoples and tribes, from ancestral cultures, and the idea of poetic translation. And this is visible, essentially, both in Herberto Helder’s Poemas Mudados para Português and in Ernesto Cardenal’s Antología de Poesía Primitiva. So, from a comparative approach, it’s my intention to demonstrate that in these two poets we can find affinities that make them not only good neighbors, but also good allies.
