Author Guidelines

The Brazilian Journal of Dance Studies accepts for publication works in the form of articles, essays, experience reports, Dance works reviews, book reviews, interviews, memorials, and translations of original and unpublished papers. It must be written in Portuguese, English, French, or Spanish that are the result of academic/artistic studies and promote knowledge in thematic areas related to Dance.
All works must be sent through the Electronic Journal Publishing System (SEER) to the address: https://revistas.ufrj.br/index.php/rbed. At the time of submission, they must be filled in with the name(s) of the person(s), author(s), institution to which they belong, e-mail, postal address, telephone(s) of the person(s) author(s), article titles, information about abstracts in the original language of the article, in Spanish and in English.
A brief description is also required in the biography item, which will be included at the end of the article and the ORCID registration of the author(s) person(s).
It is important to emphasize that general information about authorship, affiliation, title, and e-mail must be restricted to the Registration. There should not be any identification throughout the work.

To submit texts to the Brazilian Journal of Dance Studies is required a master's or doctoral degree. However, the numbers will have a publication percentage distribution of at least 80% for researchers with a doctorate and a maximum of 20% for researchers with a master's degree.

For graduate students, specialists, or master's students, the co-authorship of a Ph.D. person is required (with or without a mentorship bond) to be evaluated blindly.

Given the conditions regarding the submission of one article per author for every two publications, the evaluation will be carried out by the blind system for forwarding to the referees. In case of divergence of opinions, a third person will be consulted.
Corrections of content and standards, including the ABNT rules, are the responsibility of the author(s). Papers sent without the necessary corrections and formatting will be returned to meet the recommendations, thus avoiding overloading the Journal.
The Brazilian Journal of Dance Studies primarily accepts submissions of articles in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and French. However, as a bilingual journal, all articles will be published in two languages, Portuguese and English, Portuguese and Spanish, and Portuguese and French. Other languages will be accepted exclusively by invitation or after consultation with the editors, and their publication in Portuguese (in addition to the original language) is mandatory.
It is the responsibility of the authors to provide the translation of the text into the second language. Therefore, it must be sent to the Journal only after the reviewers have approved the text.

In addition to articles, academic texts from different sections can be submitted - essays, interviews, experience reports, Dance works reviews, memorials, and book reviews. Submissions can be made in any period, on a continuous flow demand basis, except for the specific dates of thematic dossiers.
Author(s) must inform their ORCID number.
If there is more than one authorship, the completion of the submission implies knowledge and consent with the Editorial Policy and Guidelines for publication in the Journal, with the author responsible for the submission assuming the appropriate responsibilities. In addition, in the case of using images or photos, the authorization of the photographer or the owner of the image's copyright must be entered into the system at the time of submission, by the corresponding author, as a supplementary document.

For the sections on experience reports, essays, dance works reviews, and memorials (and their respective translations), the texts may present special formatting, not being obliged to follow the formatting rules of the articles section.

For the section of articles, book reviews, and their respective translations, follow:
Titles (in Portuguese and the second language) must be written in upper and lower case, that is, with lowercase letters, with capital letters only in the initial and in proper names (example: The Living Thought of Benjamin).
Abstracts (in Portuguese and the second language) must not exceed 150 words.
The keywords (in Portuguese and the second language) must appear immediately below the abstract, preceded by the expression "keyword," separated by a semicolon and ending with a period. They must be spelled with the initials in lowercase, except for proper nouns and scientific names.

Submissions' body text (in Portuguese) must have between 30,000 and 80,000 characters with spaces (main text, notes, and captions, except title, abstract, keywords, and references). Special needs (for guests) can be discussed with editors. Delivering the English version of the article in advance is unnecessary before evaluation and approval. Delivery must be made only after approval (except for the title in English, the abstract, and the keywords informed in advance).
For the use of illustrations, the author must have formal documents authorizing or releasing the publication of the images used when not in the "public domain" or with international licenses, such as Creative Commons. In addition, the authorship of the images must be identified in the captions and the people or institutions that authorized the use.

Footnotes, when necessary, should be explanatory.
Citations with more than three lines must appear highlighted from the body of the text, in single space, in size 10, without quotation marks, and indented four centimeters from the left margin;
Justified margins with paragraphs 2.54 cm from the left and right margins and 3.17 cm from the top and bottom margins (Office 2003 Default);
Double quotes are used only for direct quotes in the body of the text;
Italics are used for foreign words, neologisms, particular uses, and titles of works.

Size of texts and files
Articles – can be between 30,000 and 80,000 characters (spaces included), with references, notes, images, tables, etc. Furthermore, the file must be limited to 4 MB.
Reviews, experience reports, interviews, and Works Reviews must be up to 20,000 characters with spaces.
Essays and Memorials must be up to 80,000 characters with spaces.
All texts must be submitted in a universal text editor (such as Word for Windows or equivalent), using Arial font, size 12, spacing 1.5.

The norms used by the Brazilian Journal of Dance Studies are adequate to the requirements of ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Norms): see below citation models. The main rule is to follow the author-date-page criterion in parentheses after direct or indirect citations, author's surname in upper and lower case, followed by year and page (Oliveira, 2015, p. 132). In the list of references should appear:
OLIVEIRA, Nadir Nóbrega. Trying to define black aesthetics in Dance. Repertoire, nº 24, p. 128-136, 2015.

Titles of artistic works (shows, songs, performances) and published works: mention, in the body of the text, the original titles highlighted in italics, followed by the release date (eg.1). In the case of foreign paper, the translated title must be mentioned in parentheses, followed by its release date (eg.2). If there is a new mention of the same work, keep the title in the language in which the body of the text is being written. Only when the title cannot be translated or the original is already a foreign word will the title remain in the original language throughout the text whenever it is mentioned. The artistic work's title must be italicized in its original language or as established in Portuguese, except when translated.
Ex. 1. The choreographer Luiz de Abreu in Samba of crazy creole (2004), [...]
Ex. 2. In Position Parallèle au Plancher (Position Parallel to the Floor), a 2008 work by French director and choreographer Phia Ménard, [...]

Related audiovisual products may be submitted as supplementary documents (images, sound, and moving images) in MP3, MP4, and JPG formats. It is also recommended to deposit video files on the Internet Archive portal or sounds on the Petrucci Music Library portal.
