This paper seeks to describe the expansion of the causative transitive construction, a complex, partially schematic and emergent structure in Brazilian Portuguese, which allows the increase of valence in originally inacusative verbs, according to Lopes (2015, 2017) and Lopes & Menezes (2018), who analyzed diachronic data of the verbs acabar, desaparecer and sumir. At this moment, we investigate the expansion of this construction based on synchronic data of two other verbs: cessar and explodir. In this process, we use the concept of constructionality, which aims at the synchronic study of change in functional perspective.
