This study investigates the formal structure of restrictive and apositive relative sentences clauses in Brazilian Sign Language (LSB), under a generative perspective. In order to achieve the goals, it was developed a qualitative research of the data, composed of sentences produced by deaf users of Libras as the main means of communication. Through the observation of sets of two images on the same referent, the participants produced the analyzed corpus, recorded on video and transcribed with the Writing in Sign Languages System (SEL), and also glossed and translated into Portuguese. The analysis showed that there are restrictive and apositive relative structures clauses in LSB, and that these constructions have the same syntactic structure, but show distinct properties with regard to the suprasegmental feature that marks the distinction between restrictive and apositive clauses. By hypothesis, and that feature is, possibly, is related to the property of the restrictive clauses to constrain the referent, phenomenon that can be interpreted as a kind of focus, as opposed to the initial and final pause marking in the apositive clauses. We considered that these differences are the expression of the (in)definite relationship between the D0 and the CP, interpreted in Logical Form – a hypothesis to be confirmed in future works.Downloads
