This photo essay reports experiences of the community kitchens of Grande Bom Jardim. Since 2022, individual, collective, and institutional agents have reconstituted community kitchens, which have become essential to the fight against hunger in this peripheral territory, located in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. Constituting the Network of Community Kitchens of Grande Bom Jardim, these agents formulated data, generated demands and propositions, affected the elaboration of the state policy to combat hunger in Ceará and integrated the fight against hunger with the struggle for a territorialized and democratic public policy for food security. This Photo Essay features 22 photographs generated between 2023 and 2024. Visiting the kitchens, daily activities and interactions were monitored, focusing on the production and distribution of meals, but attentive to other social and artistic-cultural actions. We participated in daily life, conducted interviews and made photographic and video records. The societal and ethical-political relevance and the popular-community protagonism in confronting intense social vulnerabilities, violence and rights violations are evident.
