Abstract
Racial Violence in Ghost Boys and Challenges of Antiracist Education
Abstract: This study analyzes the literary work Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes through a critical lens of racial violence and identity construction. The story of Jerome, a Black boy killed by the police, develops a narrative that intertwines reality and imagination, past and present, revealing deep marks of structural racism in American society. The research examines how the novel contributes, in the school environment, to the debate on police violence and racial inequality, addressing: Jerome’s identity and his experience as a victim of racism; the perpetuation of racism in the collective imagination; the preservation of memory in the struggle for justice; and the role of literature in raising racial awareness through education.
Keywords: Literature and Education; Racism; Cultural Identity.
