The present research focuses on the use of definite nominal expressions (NP definite) in Brazilian portuguese in textual productions of students from basic education. The main goal is to carry out a quantitative and qualitative investigation of NPs filled with plural and singular definite articles with regular, loose or weak and generic referential function. The hypothesis is that, regardless of plural markup, students usually choose definite NPs that operate at a referential level ranging from weak to generic. The discussion in thesis addresses the need for a more careful look at the most recurrent language parameters in the students’ productions regarding the discursive domains capable of revealing variation on the consistence of the expressions as a result from linguistic choices in relation to different functions of the definite articles.Downloads
