Abstract

The historical context of the development of teaching activities and choreographic production in the city of Florianópolis, capital of the State of Santa Catarina, is the focus of this article. From fragments and absences, a journey that starts from classical ballet as a reference for dance production in the 1940s and goes all the way to the first contemporary productions of the 1980s. An approach to the constitution of this municipality since the 16th century, from the perspective of its colonization process and migratory flows, was included to highlight the development of dance in the specificity of its environment and in its different historical moments.

Vera Lúcia Amaral Torres holds a PhD in Aesthetics, Sciences and Technology of the Arts: Theater and Dance from the University Paris 8, France (2012); a Master's Degree in Arts: Dance (Master 2) - University Paris 8 (2006); a Master's Degree in Communication and Semiotics ? PUC/SP (2000); Degree in Physical Education - Instituto Porto Alegre ? RS (1986). University Professor: CDS / Federal University of Santa Catarina (since 1997). Coordinator of various dance-related extension projects, including: Modern Dance Project - UFSC (1998), Investigative Body Dance Project - UFSC (2001-2003), Rehearsal Tube Project - Body: Scene and Debate - partnership between CDS/UFSC and Ceart/Udesc (2001-2016) and Café com Dança Project - UFSC (2013-2017). Organizer of the books Tubo de Ensaio: experiências em dança e arte contemporânea (Florianópolis: Edição dos Autores, 2006); Coleção Dança Cênica: Pesquisas em Dança - vol.1 (Joinville, Letra d?água, 2008); Histórias da Dança: Coleção Dança Cênica - vol.2 (Florianópolis: IOSC, 2012) and Tubo de Ensaio: composição [Interseções + Intervenções] (Florianópolis: Instituto Meyer Filho, 2016). Coordinator and curator of the UFSC Dance Week Festival (2012, 2013 and 2017 editions). Member of the Santa Catarina State Council for Culture (2003-2004); Member of the Municipal Council for Cultural Policy (Florianópolis /SC, 2011-2013). She worked as a dancer between 1988 and 1995 in dance groups in Porto Alegre: Grupo Experimental Tal, Choreo Grupo de Dança and Anima Cia de Dança.
