Caracteristics and examples of the gastronomic offer related to the geological heritage within the Global Geoparks Network (GGN)

Abstract

The connection between gastronomic production and the geological heritage is a reality developed by Geoparks belonging to Global Geoparks Network (GGN). There are Geoparks that have products known as “geofoods” and others which are members of the GEOfood® Project. Thus, this paper aims to present caracteristics and examples that may classify a product as geofood. The methodological approach included bibliographic research and content analisys of primary and secondary sources that present the relationship between gastronomic production and geological heritage in the context of GGN. It was possible to identify that not only Geoparks members of this Project have examples of gastronomic offer, known as geofood, and for this reason it is believed that much more than a brand, geofood ought to be considered a concept for gastronomic productions able to connect food and the geological heritage, even when not related to the GEOfood® Project.
