Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the linguistic behavior of definite article in noun phrases with anthroponym in Peregrinação, a work written in the third quarter of the 16th century by Fernão Mendes Pinto. The analysis was based on the Givónian typological-functional model and Labovian variationist sociolinguistics. Sixteen linguistic variables were tested, of which only eleven were statistically relevant in the cases of variation: anthroponym tradition, anthroponym type, indicator of social position/function, form of address, adjective, possessive, qualifier, presentational construction, syntactic function, coordination and mention. It was interpreted that the linguistic variation related to the presence of a definite article in noun phrases with anthroponym in Peregrinação results from a competition between different functional pressures.

César Nardelli Cambraia, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais

Possui graduação em Letras (Português-Alemão) pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1992), mestrado em Estudos Linguísticos pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1996), doutorado em Filologia e Língua Portuguesa pela Universidade de São Paulo (2000) e pós-doutorado em Lingüística Românica na Universitat de Barcelona (2010) e em Léxico e Terminologia na Universidade de Brasília (2020). Atualmente é Professor Titular de Filologia Românica na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais e tem experiência na área de Lingüística, com ênfase em Lingüística Românica e Crítica Textual, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: estudo histórico e comparado de morfossintaxe de línguas românicas em uma perspectiva tipológico-funcional, lexicologia sócio-histórica e edição de textos românicos antigos. É bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq - Nível 2.
